Overview
Milleen Constructions was engaged to deliver critical civil works as part of the Newcastle 330kV Substation rebuild — a major upgrade to one of NSW’s most important transmission assets. The works supported Transgrid’s program to enhance network reliability and expand capacity for the Hunter region.
Scope of Works
- Demolition of existing transformer compounds and 9m high reinforced concrete blast walls
- Construction of two new 330kV transformer compounds
- Excavation, reinforcement, formwork, and placement of structural concrete foundations and slabs
- Installation of plinths, cable trenches, and associated civil concrete works
- Safe delivery within a live high-voltage environment under strict safety and quality requirements
Outcome
The project required precise demolition sequencing and complex concrete construction to tight tolerances. Milleen Constructions successfully delivered the works to program and specification, contributing to the commissioning of upgraded transmission infrastructure critical to NSW’s power network.
